The National Strategy for Quality Improvement in Health Care

The US Affordable Care Act requires the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to establish a National Strategy for Quality Improvement in Health Care (the National Quality Strategy) that sets priorities to guide this effort and includes a strategic plan for how to achieve it.

In March 2011, the Secretary submitted to Congress the initial Strategy and plan for implementation. The plan identifies three board aims (Better Care, Healthy People/Communities, and Affordable Care) and establishes six priority areas of initial focus to advance these aims.
