CAPE News for 2010
As you may recall, major revisions were made to the CAPE Standards of Practice that went in to effect January 1, 2008 (a copy of the current Standards can be found at the bottom of this page under "Current Forms"). One of the biggest changes was to combine the annual renewal and audit processes in order to make the entire system more efficient. The good news is that we have not made any major changes for 2010 and will continue to implement the process as it is outlined below.
Providers will be notified 2 ½ months prior to their expiration date and will have 6 weeks in order to submit the required renewal/audit materials and payment to CAPE. Upon receipt of the Provider’s materials, CAPE will complete the audit process (which includes sending course materials to qualified reviewers to judge the quality of the program based on the Standards of Practice and the California Code of Regulations), review the provider’s reporting and record keeping history for the past year and submit the Provider’s “Renewal/Audit Status Report” on or before their expiration date.
How this affects you: CAPE will contact all available Reviewers, via email, with a list of the programs available for review (listing the program title, how many hours it was approved for, etc). This will allow each Reviewer to determine if he/she wants to review a certain program based on the topic, his/her expertise, personal schedule, etc. If interested, the Reviewer will need to respond as soon as possible to the email listing his/her desired program(s). Programs will be assigned on a “first come-first serve” basis so if a desired program is available, the Reviewer will be sent all of the appropriate materials to do the review. CAPE may send a follow-up email to Reviewers listing the programs left unassigned. Reviewers will receive only one course review at a time to ensure an accurate and efficient audit of the materials. Reviewers will be expected to evaluate the materials, complete the updated Reviewer Reporting Form (under "Current Forms") and submit the form within 10 days of receiving the materials. Reviewer Payment Forms (also under "Current Forms") have also been revised so that they can be submitted on a monthly basis, as applicable. Refer to your Letter of Agreement regarding specific Reviewer responsibilities and deadlines.
